Certifications Matter — BioPak
As part of our Worldfirst™ solution, we enjoy a partnership with BioPak who has been a passionate voice behind the legislation to remove single-use plastics nationally.
BioPak products hold many certifications to ensure products are made with both people and the planet in mind first. These certifications hold manufacturers accountable and set a standard in the packaging industry to make sure people are treated and paid fairly, these products are safe for consumers and our planet is protected.
COMPOSTABLE CERTIFICATIONS
BioPak products are certified compostable to the local Australian Standards. They are fully tested (inks, glues etc.) and approved for acceptance in industrial compost facilities (AS4736) or home compostable (AS5810). The Australian Organic Recycling Association, which represents all industrial composters, will only accept packaging certified to the local standard.
RESPONSIBLY SOURCED RAW MATERIALS
Most BioPak packaging is made from plants, not fossil fuels – designed for the circular economy. They use responsibly sourced and rapidly renewable materials, like FSC™ certified wood and paper. They also use ‘plant fibre’, a fibrous substance that remains after the sugarcane plant is harvested for its juice. Today, we’re able to turn this reclaimed agricultural byproduct into packaging that looks just like moulded cardboard.
ANTI-GREENWASHING
Many packaging companies engage in greenwashing – when organisations make their products/services appear more environmentally friendly than they actually are.
BioPak is taking a stand against greenwashing through radical transparency, encouraging a world where businesses are accountable for the claims they make.
They do this through being 100% transparent, including creating annual sustainability reports where they report on sustainability efforts and challenges. They have established a relationship with the ACCC to help create clear guidelines for businesses. They actively educate both businesses and end consumers about composting certifications, correct disposal and the end of life options for their products.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT LABELS
BioPak transparently publishes an independently calculated ‘eco-cost’ for each of their products – which tracks biodiversity loss, the effects on human health, material scarcity, as well as the more standard carbon emissions.
BioPak utilises this data to identify areas with the greatest potential for environmental impact reduction which drives constant innovation in their products and services.
PROFIT FOR PURPOSE
BioPak is B Corp certified because they believe in using business as a force for good. As a profit-for-purpose business, BioPak is driven to preserve and protect the environment and give back to the communities it operates in. They donate 5% of profits to positive change, and since 2012 have donated $4,735,014.
ETHICAL CERTIFICATIONS
BioPak facilities are certified by SA8000, SMETA & BSCI which ensures their commitment to social accountability in the areas where they operate.
